Vote4Hope - Youth HOPE Month 2024 - National Runaway Safeline

National Runaway Safeline

The upcoming election is crucial for everyone, especially those who have faced homelessness and those who care about the challenges and legal battles they encounter. This year, 4.2 million young people will experience homelessness, and we need to ensure they are protected and treated with compassion. Young people are often left unheard, but they have the power to shape the policies that directly impact their lives—policies that can provide more resources for runaway and homeless youth programs like NRS, which work tirelessly to offer shelter, support, and safety for vulnerable youth.

Here’s the plan: young voters can make a huge difference by showing up and making their voices heard. In 2020, young voter turnout jumped from 39% to 50%, and in some states with close races, young Black and Latino voters were pivotal. By increasing voter turnout, young people can help elect leaders who prioritize affordable housing and mental health resources, two critical needs for runaway and homeless youth. Every vote contributes to building safer communities and brighter futures for those who have been left behind.

Remember, it’s not just about presidential elections. Local elections—like school boards and city councils—directly impact young people in your community. So, it’s essential to vote in every election.
